4 Days and 3 Nights in Galapagos
For me, the best option to get to know the Galapagos Islands in depth without forgetting that one has to return to work. Complete and enough!
1st. Day: From Baltra to Santa Cruz, Puerto Ayora (La Lobería, Punta Estrada, The Channel of the Sharks, Playa de Perros and The Channel of Love).
2nd. Day: Santa Cruz (Tortuga Bay and the Charles Darwin Research Station).
3rd. Day: Isabela (Las Tintoreras, The Wall of Tears, Cerro Orchilla, El Estero, La Poza Escondida, Poza Redonda, Túnel del Estero, Playa del Amor, Mirador de Los Tunos and Pozas Verdes, La Playita, the Cemetery and the Arnaldo Tupiza Breeding Center).
4th. Day: Santa Cruz (the Twin Craters) and Baltra.
It all starts with a transfer from Baltra Island to the hotel in Santa Cruz. After a little break to leave your bags, we’ll have lunch. Then we will make a tour of the bay, which is an excellent start to be aware of the wonderful trip that is about to begin. This tour lasts 4 hours and we start with
So called because of the great colony of sea lions that we found there (“lobos marinos” in spanish). It is an opportunity to snorkel and swim with a variety of colorful fish.
Then we will go to
that is a small gulf of calm waters where you can see blue-footed boobies, frigates, sea lions and you can even swim with these such friendly guys.
Later, we will visit
THE CHANNEL OF THE SHARKS
Where you can see sharks completely harmless and from where you can appreciate the harbor and the mountains from a viewpoint that is the highest point of the island.
We continue the visit by the
PLAYA DE PERROS
15 minute walk to get to the beach where you can see a lot of crabs called dogs (“perros” in spanish), a large colony of marine iguanas and a beautiful landscape.
Finally we will go to the
CHANNEL OF LOVE
Where you can see sea lions, marine iguanas and a surprising landscape.
After such an activity it is time for you to process everything you have seen in the hotel room.
We will recommend some restaurants or bars to go with your people or your new friends to discuss everything you’ve lived and, if you want to walk along the boardwalk or the town of Puerto Ayora, we can assure you that you are in one of the most safe and peaceful places around the world.
This has been the first day of an unforgettable adventure!
6:00 am We have breakfast at the hotel and get ready for the second day of adventure! We will visit one of the most beautiful beaches of the islands: Tortuga Bay where one can swim with iguanas … really! And, in the afternoon, we will meet the Charles Darwin Research Station that is responsible for the study of the conservation of life on the islands and helps the Ecuadorian state to dictate the rules that help the coexistence between the nature of Galapagos and humans that live and come to visit them.
In the third day we’ll travel to the Isabela Island in a small boat for 2H30 to get to know the group of islets known as Las Tintoreras (our interest is that there is no bad time in your trip, so we bring pills for seasickness but, if we are lucky, we will even run into groups of dolphins or whales). They are a group of islets formed by lava with a great variety of species that inhabit them. You will find lots of sea lions, crabs, blue-footed boobies, penguins and iguanas on its surface … That is quite impressive because they all do not care that you pass by them. However, the highlight of this Galápagos point is not on its surface but underwater in what many describe as a fascinating snorkeling experience that surpasses many scuba diving experiences in other parts of the world. Swimming with sea turtles, sea lions and the gentlest sharks is magical to say the least. Thousands of colorful fish along with stingrays parading between corals and sponges in what would seem to be the most spectacular aquarium you have ever seen.
Lunch on the boat and rest.
In the afternoon we’ll visit the wetlands that are several paths between the mangroves where we’ll arrive several places of interest for the visitors of the islands:
The Wall of Tears, Cerro Orchilla, El Estero, La Poza Escondida, Poza Redonda, Tunel del Estero, Playa del Amor, Mirador de Los Tunos and Pozas Verdes, La Playita and the Cemetery.
The protagonists of these walks are the penguins, the flamingos and the giant tortoises.
We end the day with a visit to the Arnaldo Tupiza Breeding Center, where they are responsible for the conservation and reproduction of giant tortoises.
On the fourth day we visit the Twin Craters on Santa Cruz Island, where we will be able to appreciate a wonderful amount of land birds of different species and then take a transfer to Baltra.
